Spirometry, Flow Volume plot

Post by kmichel » Wed Sep 27, 2017 2:11 pm

Hello,
I was just testing if I could add the analysis of flow volume plots to our practical course. However, I realized that the plots that are generated by LabChart seem to be different from those that can be found in textbooks ( x- and y-axis are reversed). Is it possible to invert the axes of the flow volume plot with a macro (I had no success with the macro recorder)? It would be more convenient fo the students if they could compare their recordings directly with texbooks.

Greetings,
Klaus

Dear Klaus,

In terms of the Spirometry Menu's Flow vs Volume Plot, you cannot swap the x and y axis over - this is a fixed plot.

However you can achieve a similar effect by using LabChart's XY View (Window > XY View) - this lets you plot any Channel against a different Channel, and you can choose which Channel goes on which axis.

I hope this helps.

Dear Tom,

thanks for the qick answer. The xy-view works fine and I can invert the scales with a macro.
Just out of curiosity (my only experience with spirometry comes from playing with the ADInstruments equipment): Is there no "standard" for the orientation of the flow-volume plot? I found only plots with inverted x- and y-axis.

Regards,
Klaus
